Work Study Question

So part of my financial aid package was through the work study program. I was a little bit unsure about whether I want to work while studying, so I decided to look on the work study website. As I was going through the work study listings, I saw ever single job had 19hrs/week. On their website it says this is the maximum a full time student might work. Does anyone know if this 19hrs/week on the job listings means that is the maximum I can work at that specific job or is it the amount of time I must work every week in order to keep that job? In other words, can I only work 5hrs/week at those jobs, or do I have to work the whole 19hrs/week?

If a job states 19 hrs/week…you must work 19 hrs a week to keep the job.

If a job says…flexible hours between 5 hrs a week and x hours a week…then it’s flexible (I rarely see these)

Most of those work-study jobs are very easy.

Since they do not indicate how the 19 hours should be distributed throughout the week, are they up to the student to decide? I know on some they specifically list that the student needs to be free on certain days, but what about for those who do not say anything of that sort.

It depends on where you work. If you work at an office with specific hours (office assistant, housing and food services), then they’ll have to be between those hours. If you’re working a more flexible job in terms of hours (some IT, developer, just clock in at the office) then you can work at midnight (you’ll have to show up to meetings and stuff though, if mandatory for your position)…
