Has anyone had experience with work study? Is it way more flexible then a regular job? And is it possible just to work Monday - Thursday because I’ll be going back home on the weekends.
Depends on the job. my daughter worked in admissions. Very flexible. Other jobs like working in the dining hall would be less flexible. In general, work study can be way more flexible than a regular job. The downside is that you can only earn up to the amount of your reward.
Depends on the job and school.
Library desk positions at my school were pretty flexible and you could even do homework while on the job if you worked a lesser-used library. I’ve heard admissions, office assistants and other positions are very flexible as well. Quite a few even let you pick your hours and move them around as needed if you have busy weeks or lighter weeks.
You should be able to find a job without too much difficulty that is flexible.
I work as a peer tutor and we choose our own availability hours. The downside is that I don’t get to work unless people make appointments with me, and a lot of people only seek out tutoring when midterms/finals are looming. Your school might have a work-study job fair at the beginning of the semester.
It should be flexible hence the name work/study. The whole point is to gain work experience, which is the benefit, while being able to still keep on top of your assignments. Depending on the department you chose to work with, or you get hired under, really is the determining factor on how much time you get to study while working.
