I work at a lab at Stenford. Will this be a big boost to admissions at Stanford?

No, I don’t think working at either Stemford or Stenford will help you get into Stanford ;)

^ Lol at BigKev. Even if you meant Stanford, it would most likely have a negligible effect on admissions.

If he wrote Stenford but meant Stanford, I suppose it would hurt more than help.

Men of Stanford, forgive me for my erroneous spelling of the prestigious appellation of “Stanford”. But let’s stay on topic.

Say if I worked at the lab, long-term, and I published some research papers at Stanford, and also received a recommendation from a research mentor at Stanford - would the boost in admissions truly be negligible? Do not get the image that I am doing it all for college admissions (I truly am passionate in my research), but I was just curious if my admissions at a college would vary if I worked for that college.

What will help is that you actually did research and received a recommendation from a professor - not the fact that it’s from stanford. What will help also is that you’ll have something to write about in your “Why Stanford” essay.

Your post almost sounds hypothetical…

lololol this thread makes me laugh

FUNNY.

On a serious note, I think you should mention it. Might just help you make the cut if you are an otherwise qualified applicant.

isn’t your username a kid from that disney show

how do you do a research and shoot shows at the same time?

Commute???

They offer RA positions to high schoolers? since when? in what dept? There are actual Stanford undergraduates who look for paid RA positions, and they’re hard to come by.

^there are very few research assistant jobs available to high school people. most of them are professors who are friends of parents, etc.

RA positions are really hard to come by.

BUT general statement:
in most bio labs, it takes several months of training to be a significant part of that lab. for many labs, you do the non-intellectual work like taking care of cells for a long time before you do anything productive. to “publish some research papers”, it can take years even for upper level undergraduates at generous labs.

admissions staff know this and are aware that many high school students try to do “research”, when most of these students simply do the manual labor for other people they have connections to. to be recognized for research, it would have to be substantive.

@ belly.

Extreme time management.

really Cole Sprouse?
I don’t see you do that in the show lol
