working in a lab

so, i was hoping to work with a professor in a lab as soon as possible (i’m pre-med, and know this is necessary for medical schools). i have never done any lab work before outside of the classroom. should i start emailing professors i would like to work with now? or wait till i get to duke?

thanks for the help

yea, same here… except i’ve worked in two labs for over a year… i’m bme/premed and have worked on vascular calcification all summer… could this help me get a job at duke first year?

You could start looking at different professors and what they do now. That way, when you start emailing professors, you know whose work you are interested in and you won’t sound totally clueless. But I would hold off the emailing until it’s closer to the start of the semester.

ok, is it ok to email now??

where do i find like a list of possible proffessor/researchers??

anyone with experiecne, how easy is it to have one say yes?

thanks

Sure, emailing now shouldn’t be too much of a problem.

You find a list of professors by going to the department’s webpage and checking the list of faculties and their research interests.

It’s not impossible but not a walk in the park either. There are those that won’t even bother to reply but that’s why you email a bunch.

SBR… . .hate to bother you, but i’m interested in working in a lab with faculty of the medical school. but i can’t find the list of professors. . .could you help me out?

Any specific departments? If not, here’s a page with a list of links to med school department pages. Once you pick one, those pages should have links to faculty lists:

[School of Medicine Departments - Duke University School of Medicine ::](http://medschool.duke.edu/modules/som_depts/index.php?id=1)

thanks a lot man, i appreciate it. i’ll try either genetics or biochem.

no problem, glad to help
