Working/researching with prof?

Hey people.
I'm gonna be a senior this coming fall and I really want to do something productive this summer. So I'm thinking that working with a local professor would be a great idea. However, I live in the Bay Area and there are some top notch universities here like Santa Clara U and Stanford. I'm planning on contacting some microbiology professors there. Buttt my fear is that they will look down upon me like some naive little child and get rejected.
I just want to gain some experience in the lab and possibly help the professors out with their research.
Do you guys think it's too late right now, since school is almost over? Blehh I dunno whut to do.

If that's what you want to do, then go for it. Don't worry about what someone could possibly think of you, that's silly.

PM me if you want a sample email.

I previously wrote to those who saw this thread and requested for a sample:
