Working through education

Is it realistic/possible to work 25 hours a week through full time university education?

I worked in a restaurant from my Junior year in high school until 2 weeks before I started teaching.

On a typical week, I worked from 4- 11 one weeknight, then 4-midnight or later Friday and Saturday, and 3-10 on Sunday, though all those hours depended on how close to closing someone came in.

I worked through student teaching as well. It never would have occurred to me not to. Besides, I needed the money.

And, for what it’s worth, I had the low GPA in the crowd at work, with a 3.85.

I got my Master’s part time, one class at a time, while teaching.

Yes, working part time is absolutely do-able.

So bjkmom did it. She had a 3.85 which shows she is a hard worker. I best she also prioritized her time.

What kind of student are you? Do you read material and start studying before the day before the test or do you cram at the last minute? Do you do homework when you get it or wait to the last second? Do you like to hang out with your friends alot? Do you go to the library and concetrate and finish or do you take your time doing HW while watching TV?

I think you can do it if you can be efficient. Look at the book “How to Become a Straight-A Student: The Unconventional Strategies Real College Students Use to Score High While Studying Less” by Cal Newport for strategies in being efficient.

I work about 23 hours a week ( between 2 jobs) and bopper is right, prioritization is HUGE. I’m lucky enough to have a job and a class schedule that are able to work around each other, another big thing for me is that, by working at a daycare I know I will never work weekends and I will never be at work past 7.

This is what my schedule looks like:

Monday
Work: 8-4
Class 4:30-6

Tuesday
Work: 7:30-9:30 am
Class: 10-12; 1:50-3:15, 6-9
Counseling 1-1:40

Wednesday
Work (2nd job): 10:30-12:30
Class: 1:20-4:20; 4:30-6

Thursday
Class: 10-12; 1:50-3:15
Work: 3:30-6:45

Friday
Work: 8-2
Work (2nd job) 2:30-4:30

and 1-2 Saturday’s a month

So it is doable but time management is vital
