Workstudy and Honor courses

Here are some questions I’ve been thinking about:

 1. How competitive is it to get a workstudy job? Especially the research jobs
 2. What is the difference from honor courses and the regular courses? For instance, the difference between Math 53 and Math H53. Is Math H53 harder?

Thanks in advance! :)

Also, how hard is chem 112a for my first semester as a freshman? I finished ib hl chemistry and i definitely feel i got at least a 5 or 6 and my two optional topics for the exam was in organic chemistry. I am much more interested in organic chemistry, but is chem 112a and its respective labs really that hard?

Dude, you gotta calm down. just get through the first semester first

The difference is that honors courses tend to be smaller in size (more professor attention), go much more in-depth, and are much more time-consuming (twice as time consuming as non-honors, or even more).

Honors courses do NOT give you a GPA boost. However, if you really really like a certain area, and are strong in that area, and won’t be taking that many units that semester (it would not be a good idea, for example, to take 3 other normal-workload classes alongside an honors class), you may consider taking the class.

Regarding chemistry, what is your major and what college are you in? Depending on the major, you might not be allowed to skip the intro sequence.

Im bioengineering, but I changed my mind to do 3a and 3al now because I havent done 1b (a prereq for 112a).
But anither question to ask, should I phase 1 chem 3a or not take it first semester and take physics 7a?

Also, anyone know about sorkstudies?

^in determining whether to phase I something, look at the berkeley class schedule and see how filled-up the class is already. If there are lots of spots open, you could consider phase II’ing it.
