Thanks for the schedule. I know nothing about World-Cup soccer, but my son has a friend on the team (they played basketball together in junior high). So I definitely want to watch!

S came over to watch part of the game with my husband and was a little disappointed. It’s exciting to watch someone you know accomplishing something on the world stage like that, and he’s hoping USA can go far this cycle. The first game was not inspiring, unfortunately, and his friend is taking some of the heat for that.

Thanks for that link, Cool. Also need a link to the full TV schedule; DS is a fan not just of U.S. but several other countries too. Four years ago, I printed out the full TV schedule and we highlighted the games he wanted to watch or record, using three different colors to indicate U.S. games, and two other countries that he especially wanted to watch. Our DVR will definitely be smokin’ for the next few weeks!

Boy am I ready for this! I’m pretty much resigned to the idea that Brazil will win, but I will enjoy seeing lots of teams play. The US team has by far the most difficult travel setup for the Group stage. I am heading to Spain after the semi-final, hoping they can go all the way (not rally thinking though, like I said, Brazil) and I’ll be there for some fun celebrating.

USA did not look good yesterday… but, there is still time to come together as a team. Looked like they weren’t used to playing with each other, which is understandable.

Wondo needs to finish his chances… he isn’t going to get left wide open during the world cup.

Will be interesting to see what formations we play with the next 2 warm up games. I don’t think we are going to be playing with 2 forwards against Germany or Portugal. The 2nd “forward” (probably Dempsey, or AJ if Dempsey plays wide) will have to play in the midfield.

USA has 2 more warmup games:
June 1: 2pm (east coast time) v. Turkey (ESPN2)
June 7: 6pm (east coast time) v. Nigeria (ESPN)

Warning: brag alert. We’re going to three world cup games. Going has been on DH’s “bucket” list, so we put our names in the lottery and got some great games. We won’t get to see the US play, so will watch on screens in country. USA will be lucky to get out of the group stage. Beating Ghana is a must.

I know these pre WC games are necessary, but two more players, one for Mexico and another for Italy, will now miss the WC due to broken legs. I wish there were a better way.

Michael Bradley…he was the littlest kid on the junior high basketball team and probably would have been voted “least likely to be a professional athlete.” He was also very smart and determined, traits that have served him well. Because look at him now!

He is my favorite player for the US! When he played in Chievo the fans loved him. Then in Roma he lost his spot when he became injured and his replacement was so good he never got to play much. He certainly deserves his place on the team. Wonderful midfielder.

Well, I just googled Donovan and he was cut from the World cup. I did see this guy played in San Jose when my oldest was playing soccer. I haven’t keep up with the World cup news at all but I doubt that my husband knows that either.

A lot of people were sad (and a little surprised) when Donovan was cut. He was probably the best-known player and a scoring machine four years ago.
