Yes. Found them. Beautiful uniform.

Achtung baby!

Someone actually cares about coach fashion? Really?

That was a great goal and Germany thoroughly deserved the win - maybe not so much on tonight’s performance but for their entire performance.

Lowe missed a belt loop. Not important, obviously.

Thought it was a great game. There were definitely tears in this house over the result.

If you are new to soccer, don’t be a Eurosnob and just watch the big European teams on TV-- support your local team. If you haven’t been to a game, give it shot. It is even more fun than watching on TV.

If you are in the DC Metro area, shoot me a PM and I will buy you a beer at a DC United game.

How the FIFA rankings might look like in a few days – with rankings after the WC and in early June with changes in points:

For all the noise, the USA lost ground. Biggest gainer was the Netherlands.

1 Germany 1761 1300 461
2 Argentina 1689 1175 514
3 Holland 1525 981 544
4 Colombia 1437 1137 300
5 Belgium 1344 1074 270
6 Uruguay 1330 1147 183
7 Spain 1229 1485 -256
8 Brazil 1220 1242 -22
9 Switzer 1216 1149 67
10 France 1185 913 272

11 Portugal 1108 1189 -81
12 Greece 1048 1064 -16
13 Chile 1045 1026 19
14 Italy 1023 1104 -81
15 USA 989 1035 -46
16 CostaRica 935 762 173
17 Croatia 927 903 24
18 Mexico 907 882 25
19 Bosnia 886 873 13

How does this year’s rankings for the US compare to previous years. It’s this the best ever?

Nine European teams and five South American teams are ranked ahead of the US. I don’t think all fourteen teams would beat the US if they played today.

Germany’s victory means for the first time ever that one continent has won three consecutive World Cups. Italy, Spain, and now Germany back to back to back. It’s never been done before.

I have no issue with any of those teams being ranked ahead of the U.S.

In 2006 we were ranked 4th before the World Cup. I believe that was the best ever and look how that worked out. Hint–not well.

That is always possible, but the US would have an incredibly hard time to beat any of those 14 teams, or the next 10 for that matter, including several teams that did not qualify for the WC. I also think that if the US had to qualify for the WC in Europe, they would miss most tournaments. The good news is that their return hinges on beating the likes of Panama or Jamaica and survive a test match against New Zealand.

For historical rankings …

For bragging rights, look at the ladies

FIFA;

German player doesn’t remember World Cup.

http://www.si.com/planet-futbol/2014/07/14/germany-christoph-kramer-cant-remember-world-cup-final?xid=aol_home</a></p>

I think the number of subs should be Increased from 3 to 4 and players with head injuries that make them doozy should not be going back in the games.

One thing noticeable from watching the world cup is there are plenty of head injuries.

<a href=“FIFPro Calls For Concussion Probe After Alvaro Pereira Gets Knocked Cold”>FIFPro Calls For Concussion Probe After Alvaro Pereira Gets Knocked Cold;

One of the commentators suggested that if there’s a head injury, the team should be allowed a free substitution while he’s being evaluated (for more than 2 minutes). Some of the other commentators reacted like this was some kind of extreme radical suggestion. Perhaps they’re afraid players will fake a head injury in order to get a free sub.

^^^^I think protecting players’ lives and intellects should take precedence over the impact of extra substitutions.

Klinsmann has sights on 2018 and was willing to sacrifice standings (and Donovan) in this Cup to build his team. He’s a brilliant strategist and I would take the drop in stats with a grain of Salz.

http://touch.latimes.com/#section/-1/article/p2p-80799121/</a>

I think the US would have a really hard time beating the countries 14 countries ranked above, and even some below like Costa Rica. The team is getting better, but it is still not at the level the female team is.

^ ^ ^ ^ ^

They were less than a minute away from beating one of them. A few of these countries self-destructed during the World Cup and appear headed in the wrong direction. I would be surprised if they couldn’t pull off 2 wins and 2 draws against all of them. I agree there are lower ranked nations who could also beat the US.

I don’t understand naysayers who can’t see the positives in the USA’s performance. They were in one of the two toughest groups and faced the eventual WC Champion. They didn’t perform poorly in any game. Other nations gave up trying or had internal disputes etc. Our games were nail biters…their players were neck biters.
