World Cup fever!

Goooooooooollllllllllll!!!

Hmmm. Ref called a foul on the wrong team!!! This looks like a wrestling match.

That ref needs to be fired. He’s lucky he’s fixed against the US; any other country and he’d probably get shot in the parking lot.

Anybody know how much extra time? NVM. Done. Anticlimactic but … yay…

We are still alive for the cup.
Have a happy day!

Now for son’s tournament. Hope they are inspired!

Bill Bradley just interviewd and said no one seems to know why the last goal was not allowed. It was Bali robbery (my term)!

He was quite the diplomat.

There was a LOT of holding going on during that free kick. Maybe ref saw the “wrong” couple.

^That’s what I think happened.

Michael Bradley looked close to offsides - not sure if that was what was called.

Two scenarios-

The ref failed horribly and made a miserable call

-or-

The ref was on the take.

Given the refs other controversial calls against the USA during the game, I think the second scenario is more likely.

New to World Cup–Is there any recourse against bad officiating? Both matches that I saw today seemed to have terrible calls. I think every player on the German team had a yellow card. IF the German team was one of the favorites, giving a red card could have a big impact.

It’s so easy to ref while watching TV with instant replay. Not so easy on the field in real time. I think the ref just made a mistake.

Not really. I think they occasionally change things if there are big mistakes with cards, but this result will stand.

^^^^What I find so odd about that goal being called back was that the ref refused to say why he called it back (according to the players and coach). All commentators of varied nationalities so far that I have heard say it was a terrible call and makes zero sense, that the Americans were robbed, etc. It’s not just sour grapes on the part of the US.

But bad calls are part of the game. Too bad for the boys…

"Is there any recourse against bad officiating? "

There is always being infamous in wikipedia!

[Koman Coulibaly - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia](Koman Coulibaly - Wikipedia)

Looks like his talk page has been deleted. Judging from the history there was a lot of pretty bad stuff posted.

According to another site…

“BTW, the call wasn’t offside - the referee blew for a foul before the shot was even taken.”

That wikipedia page keeps changeing! Pretty interesting how that happens.

It was a terrible call. IMO–USA was robbed of a win today.

From another site…

"Instead of speculating on the ref, take a look at the tape. Did he award an IFK (indicated by arm up) to suggest offside or did he indicate DFK for a foul? Commentators said the AR signalled, but that’s not what the tape shows.

…He was part of the story and the key to being a referee is to never be the story…"
