World Cup fever!

An AP reporter wrote a long piece today about why everyone should turn off the World Cup now that the USA is out of it. Why would you not want to see the eight best teams in the world in any sport compete?

He forgot to mention the nearly 5 million people who watched US-Ghana on Univision while he was pointing out the game wasn’t that big of a deal with US fans. Not very good reporting.

He has players like Messi and Tevez. His powers of motivation weren’t very apparent when they nearly failed to qualify.

^^ motivating and making goals are two different things. I realized by the way Mexico and England lost that mistakes by referees really have a negative effect on the players. And the team on the losing side (the first who gets a goal from the opponent) has an increased level of stress and anxiety which negatively affects their performance. So I think that if the referees didn’t make such a unexcusable mistakes, then the game results would be different or maybe not. but I’m sure that playing under pressure is much different than playing when the palyers know that they are winning…such a long writing to say that I think that the player’s emotions and their level of stress and anxiety plays a big part on how well a the team plays…

I am starting to like the buzzing of the horns; it does add electricity to the atmosphere!

Oh my goodness, what an exciting game! Unbelievable upset. Brazil is out!

That was a great game. And I agree with lotsfoquests, I think that noise is growing on me.

Can’t believe Brazil blew off the second half like that. Great win for the Dutch either way

YES!! No more having to watch the dirty Fabiano until the soccer season in Spain starts, and no more of Robinho until English league. I watched the last several minutes in Portuguese. Not happy campers. I’m ecstatic!

In my hope for a new WC winner, I’ll root for Ghana, but Forlan and company can really play.

Hey. My first wish is granted.

Brazili

Oh! Still can’t believe what happened. My heart almost stopped. Amazing save by Uruguay. Amazing miss by Ghana. Now on to the nerve wracking pk.

Brazil and Netherland was exciting but still nothing compare to this.

I know games have to end somehow, but I still hate PK’s.

In looking back, Su

I think it is a wise decision. In stead of letting Ghana to have the goal, Suarez did the best he could do: get the red card (which was not much of a penalty because the game was over).

Ghana could only scored two penalty kicks. That was their main weakness.

Suarez is out for the rest of the tournament though.

Isn’t he only out for the next game? Red card = miss next game. If they make it through to finals he could be back in.

Well, you could try adjusting the rules to put a little offense into the game so it wasn’t so rare to actually score a goal. Then you could settle the game by actually playing soccer instead of penalty kicks. Imagine if scoring were so rare in NBA games that they regularly had to resort to a free throw shooting contest to decide the contest.

Ghana lost - feel x them … Both teams tried hard

Fooey. What a terrible way to win, with a deliberate handball.

A disciplinary committee will decide whether it’s one game or two. I can’t see them being lenient on such an obvious and intentional offense, but I’m not sure what the precedent is.

Most NBA games come down to FT’s anyway, unless one team has a huge lead.

I hope the penalty is only one match. It wasn’t as though Su

Suarez’s handball actually saved Uruguay. I can’t believe it. Cheated? probably not because he was punished and the penalty was awarded. Dirty? Yes. I guess whatever makes your team win is good enough. It’s sad that he’s actually a “hero” by doing that. Ghana was just unlucky with the PKs.

Tomorrow: Germany vs Argentina, expect a thriller
