World Cup fever!

My daughter was in Germany yesterday with all the celebratory fanfare with the World Cup game win!

that was fun!! soozievt…i wouldn’t want to be in Argentina or Brazil after the teams lost…I was in Mex four years ago during world cup, and when the Mx team lost, it seemed that the city was very silent…the fun was over…before that it was all party time…

I vote for GERMANY!! WHOO!!!

One of my children lives in Spain, and the other is coming home from her SA/internship there tomorrow. She’s not happy, and I’m sure Spaniards will be sad if they lose, but they have already made history for that country in WC, so the despair will not be as in those countries.

MomofaTeen, that same daughter of mine was in France in 2006 during the time it lost in the final game of the World Cup.

My other daughter heads to Germany this Friday coincidentally and if that team is still in it, that may be cool.

Spain, hopefully, for the win…? Maybe…?

Writer, I’m with you, but (almost) more than anything I hope for good soccer. Rumor has it that Torres won’t be starting.

I’ve always been a Spain fan, so I’m rooting for Spain, however impossible it seems
and gloworm, idk whether or not the coach will actually do it, because it will be a big deal, but most fans are saying that if Spain wants a chance to win they need to start Fabregas instead of Torres.
Which I think is, unfortunately, true.
So disappointing he hasn’t performed well this World Cup. After such a great Euro it’s even more disappointing :frowning: They just keep starting him and praying that he will do something magical but with Germany I don’t think they can risk it. People say he needs his blonde hair back, haha, but I like him dark haired better!

alamode,
The thing is, he didn’t really have such a great Euro '08. Though the goal he scored in the championship was a real golazo, it was his only goal of the tournament. In his PC the other day del Bosque said that Torres was important, but that doesn’t mean he is always going to start.

On his 84th birthday yesterday, Di Stefano wished for them to win the WC.

Germany is tall. Height will help Spain. Personally, I would like to see Cesc or Llorente in there, but I have a feeling I tcould be Silva. A por ellos!

On paper, Germany should win. They have strength in every position. The only thing that concerns me is that Germany lost Muller. Marin is too inexperience for a game like this, I’d like to see Kroos or Trochowski replacing Muller. But with Schweinsteiger in the lineup, he can architect good attacks.

I like Iniesta from Spain. The guy is very talented and humble. He said Germany would be tough to play for Spain. David Villa on the other hand is too cocky. He said that the Germans are afraid to play Spain. And we all knew what happened when Maradona attacked Schweinsteiger and Muller with his words.

^^^^^Before the England/Germany game, I saw a thing on TV where they showed various British tabloids with headlines along the lines of “Germany is afraid of the English team” and other such nonsense. Didn’t work out that way on that particular day, either.

I think perhaps the Spain vs. Germany game should actually be the final as those appear to be the top two teams. I can’t wait-hopefully it will be an exciting game. Sometimes the big games don’t live up to the hype.

The winner of Spain - Germany will be heavily favored no matter who wins today’s game. But there are too many variables in a single match to write off the chances of the Dutch or the Uruguayans.

I have to miss today’s game because I have a mtg. :(

But I thought I’d share some eye-candy with the ladies on this thread, sent to me by a friend: [Photo from AP Photo](http://www.daylife.com/photo/06CW6WL3OLfIT)

The related “caption” for that big pic erroneously says that Navas is the goalkeeper. It was taken from yesterday’s Spanish team PC. Navas is not a goalkeeper for Spain, but in the PC he was with Pepe Reina, one of the backup goalies for Spain.

I like all the pics, YDS, and sorry you have to miss the game.

Over the weekend, I was struck by how incredibly good-looking the Spanish team is, as a group and individually. At least half of them are pin-up worthy. But my wife said she didn’t see it.

^^^^ I think I read that same thing you mentioned about David Villa, both in its original language, Spanish, and in the English translation. In Spanish Villa says that Germany is feared by Spain because there is a lot to fear, and in English the translation it comes out backward. It also says in Spanish that it should be a good game (partido), whereas in English, whoever translated it put party for game. I hope he gets a better translator!

I hope Paul the octopus is correct about his prediction for Spain tomorrow.

Pity. Otherwise we could say “Jesus saves!”

Hooray for Holland! Netherlands beats Uruguay 3-2! I predict an all Europe Holland-Germany final.

Just have to pop in…
YES!!! Holland won the game! So happy.
Yikes, that was a bit scary at the very end.

That was close!!

Hoping for Spain tomorrow, but Germany is so good!
