World Cup fever!

Oh boy, will we get it in the office tomorrow!! Being a closet Netherlands rooter working for the official corporate sponsor of the Spanish team has been difficult, to say the least, but our Spanish colleagues deserve their celebration (gee - a day off would be nice!!).

The World Cup withdrawal will be pretty bad here too, but I have to say I have enjoyed watching some talented players in the tournament that I would have not seen much of otherwise since they don’t play in the EPL or MLS.

Anyone knows what happent to Torres almost at the end of the game? it seemed that he was hurt…by the way…i heard a lot about Torres, but he didn’t play much…any ideas why?

mom, he didn’t play well in the first round and so he got pulled as a starter. I was listening to the game on the radio, and the announcers indicated he was hurt, but I never heard how it happened.

Back from huge party/celebration (designated driver) So happy!!!

So happy that Spain is World Champion!!!

So happy Iniesta was MoM!!

So happy that Forl

I wondered who got player of the tournament. So happy it was Forlan. The guy’s a beast.

I have to say, listening on the radio was interesting. I was happily surprised when Torres came in but was shocked he was taking out Villa. I don’t know who else I thought should come out since I hadn’t seen a minute of the game, but, boy, that coach sure comes out smelling like a rose.

On to the Woman’s World Cup 26 June through 17 July 2011 and it will be held in Germany. So not 4 years but only 1 until the next big one. :)

Ok serious world cup soccer withdrawal now.

Looking forward to the woman’s world cup.

As for the men…I wish the Spanish League was shown on tv. Barcelona…Real Madrid…

^ I’ve got La Liga games on TV every weekend of the season.

Cool! US women have advantages. The US has some best players.

looked like he pulled something at the end of the game

He had injury issues this year (22 goals in only 32 appearances for Liverpool). Most recently, he had knee surgery in the middle of April. At this point, they said he was out 6 weeks, which means he started training again at the beginning of June.

Dontsayit & soccer guy, thanks for the info…

I usually root for the underdog in sports and in life, but I feel Spain fully deserve their victory. They play an attractive brand of football and they are psychologically tough enough when needed.

Congratulation to all the Spanish supporters here on CC.

It’s sad to wake up and realizing that the world cup is over… I just can’t believe it, feel worse than when I came back from a long vacation.

^^^Yeah, no more watching the games while on the treadmill. Those games always made the workouts seem fast and “easy.”

Sigh. I guess it’s back to E! network or HGTV while putting in the miles.

It was an excellent diversion for me. Now I’ll have to actually shop for ds’s dorm room. I don’t like shopping.

I’m glad Spain won as they were the better team, but that game was painfully boring.

If it weren’t for what was at stake, TV sets across the country would have switched to Women’s Golf.

The team is back in Madrid. I’ll be watching all the goings on for the next five hours via satellite, soaking it all in, sharing with husband and daughter here, son there, loving it all.

Canuckguy, Blackhawks last month, Spain this month, but I still don’t think I’ll ever see a WS from the Cubs.

Maybe the Bleacher Bums should try vuvuzelas?

^^^^^^^^^^^^

Why? Because it worked so well for the South Africans?

^^^No, beczause they evidently worked so well in propelling the Spaniards to victory. The long, sonorous drone of the vuvuzelas was the most exciting thing to come out of this World Cup.
