World Cup fever!

Correction: Second place in Group H would likely match up against Brazil!

Why did I quit watching that game after the first half???

I had to leave the house after halftime for an appt. I TIVO’d the game and am glad I did as the second half was very exciting. Lots of chances for Spain to score, and a few close ones for the Swiss. Very enjoyable!

UGHH!!! Spain loses thanks really to Casillas. That’s the same kind of mistakes he made during the season w/Madrid. Then I had to go to the dentist. How much pain should one have to endure in one day. j/k

The Swiss were great on defense. I hope to see more of Navas, at least some of Llorents and Cesc in the next game.

Oh, and maybe Valdes in goal.

Watching South Africa vs. Uruguay. SA doing a lot of falling down, hoping to draw the fouls. In general, it’s not working, end result being that they are wasting precious time on the ground instead of making a meaningful contribution to the game.

Spain had so many “almost goals” (I watched the recap on fifa.com which shows the goals and the almost goals)–and then to lose! Bummer…

On a completely superficial note, Uruguay wins the prize for the best-looking team in the World Cup!

I’ll have to check them out, alwaysamom…soccer-wise of course!

You may be right, alwaysamom! I used to think that Spain were the the winners in that category but F. Torres has done something different with his hair and Raul is too old for this team. Iker Cassilas still rates, though.

Then again, our own guys are nothing to sneeze at…Carlos Bocanegra, Gooch, Timmy Howard, Benny Feilhaber…

Maybe we should start a different thread–best-looking eleven of the 2010 World Cup?

I would give the prize to Portugal simply based on Ronaldo alone.

Regarding Uruguay, the Forlan is cute, and good. I didn’t know until today that his father had also played in WC for Uruguay, and that his grandfather had coached.

i found this cool website… [Vuvuzela Time! - View any website like you’re at the South Africa World Cup!](http://www.vuvuzela-time.co.uk/www.collegeconfidential.com)

you can change the CC part at the end to any website you like, and peruse the internet with the enchanting sounds of a vuvuzela choir whenever you like!

I’m pretty sure 6 points mathematically puts you into the 2nd round. 5 points usually takes you through. 4 points is sometimes enough. 3 basically never enough.

Germany’s group is paired with the US group for the 2nd round at this WC.

Six points doesn’t mathematically put you in the second round. Suppose Honduras loses to everyone, Spain beats Chile and Honduras and Switzerland loses to Chile. Then Honduras would have no points and everyone else would have six.

I am not a fan of Forlan’s headband–reminds me how my hair looked in 6th grade…

Wow! 4-1. I know one was an og, but they really have a potent offense, and Messi was great even though he didn’t score.

There was an item on news radio about how to tune out the vuvuzela. The sound is B flat, they mentioned the megahertz but I was driving, and if you have sound control on your system you can delete that frequency so that the sound is gone. Takes more system control than we have (including the input operator  ) but thought it might be interesting to see if any tried it.

If you have an equalizer on your TV or computer, or whichever device you’re viewing from, its possible to tune down the noise from the vuvuzelas: [How to Silence Vuvuzela Horns in World Cup Broadcasts](<a href=“How to Silence Vuvuzela Horns in World Cup Broadcasts”>How to Silence Vuvuzela Horns in World Cup Broadcasts)
I haven’t tried it myself, but it might help some people

If it’s so easy to do … makes me wonder what ESPN is thinking by not doing it themselves …

France vs Mexico should be good, I want if France will show up this time.
