@sushiritto honestly? No, I don’t know the game of soccer. What I know is that Spain is getting on their plane back home, and Russia is advancing to quarter-finals and Russian fans are rallying on the Red Square right now, celebrating their win. To me, that makes the Russian team the better one. But good to know about shots on goal though!
To add one more comment, actually a question, re: Russian sports.
Have you watched a 2017 documentary titled “Icarus” which started being about doping in cycling, but turned into a documentary on the Russian doping scandal. It won the Academy Award for Best Documentary Feature.

I don’t like Russia because they’re proven cheaters. Cheaters never win. And winners never cheat.
“Cheaters never win.” Maybe tell that to Lance Armstrong , an American.
@TheMoreYouKow you have your definition of the “better team” and I have mine.
And the Russian World Cup team has AT LEAST one drug cheater.
And he got what he deserved. He lost his titles, reputation and his money
Hope this general thread about the World Cup doesn’t turn political, and focused on Russia! Lots of interesting games ahead!
Unbelievable save by Denmark!
Penalty kicks again! I’m rooting for Denmark. One of my grandmothers was Swedish, and I’ve been to Denmark, not Croatia. So, that is my logic.
SIL has Croatian roots. Go Croatia!
This shoot-out is beyond intense
Mr.'s Russian buddy who is in Moscow now texted that not a single soul In the city is asleep and that every grocery and liquor store is now sold out of vodka and other adult beverages. The buddy noted that they would have been sold out anyway
Property owners are bracing for impact!
Phenomenal goalie for Denmark
Croatia’s too… sudden death now
It’s Croatia… I was rooting for Denmark, but this was fun, if heart-attack inducing
Yay!!!
Congratulations to Croatia! Great game!
Bring on Belgium. I will root for Japan tomorrow.
May the best team of the Brazil-Mexico game win.
Didn’t care one or another, but that was fun. I can’t beleve Modric missed the PK in the 2nd OT.
From this stage forward the better team, by definition, is the the team that wins. That’s how it’s played. Good is good.
“I’ve haven’t read this thread closely so maybe it’s been mentioned … I am surprised at the amount of mauling the refs are allowing. Anyone else?”
Actually, in my family we were commenting on just the opposite today. It seems like a pretty clean World Cup. There are always shenanigans.
I do hate when it comes down to PKs. I don’t think one could call themselves the “better” team winning on PKs. The winner, yes, but not better.
At the end of the day, one team will get the FIFA World Cup Trophy. Then everyone will be able to debate what they are: the better team, the most winning team, or the luckiest team. Of course fans of eliminated teams can start now…
