We go to PK’s. I’m not a big fan of ending the game this way, but after 120+ minutes you have got to end the match somehow.

Spain 1137 passes versus Russia 284. Russia had ONE (1) shot accurately placed on goal. Six shots total. Spain had 25 shots on goal with 9 placed on goal. Statistically not even close. But the game isn’t played on paper. The better team lost. But that’s just soccer.
I can’t remember, but wasn’t Russia not able to compete, as a nation, in the most recent Olympics? “Just sayin’.” 
My husband’s reaction to Spain’s game was, “But nice passing, guys.” He felt they were way too, well, passive. We still wanted them to win.

I’ve haven’t read this thread closely so maybe it’s been mentioned … I am surprised at the amount of mauling the refs are allowing. Anyone else?
@TheMoreYouKow let me ask you a question. Do you know the game of soccer? The best team doesn’t always win the game. So, to answer your question, no. That’s why, for example, the NBA and MLB play a series of 7 games to determine a champion. It’s difficult to have 4 fluke wins to win a series.
