Yes!!!
Gotta admit: that was a thing of beauty
England look a little lost here. I mean, they are still creating some chances, but defensively they look a mess for the past 15-20 minutes.
Yea… tables have turned and suddenly it’s a different game
Regulation time ended with a very different feel, but the break here favors my 3 Lions. We’re going to get a goal here in the 1st OT period, then just hang on for the 2-1 victory.
Really wish we didn’t have to listen to Bill Walton during the break… so tired of that guy already… %-(
Mordic’s work rate is amazing.
<:-P
I loved how the players kissed the photographer they smooshed.
And that Chroat energy has paid off…
Well, not so much…
Sorry England lost but congratulations to Croatia.
Did anyone file a Missing Persons report on @USCWolverine yet? =))
There’s always Qatar 2022.
Several times during the game, one of the announcers mentioned that Croatia was the second smallest (in terms of population) country to go to the World Cup finals. Does anyone know which country was the smallest? At one point, the announcer said the name of the smallest country (1.5 million population) but I didn’t catch the name.
I’m not much of a soccer fan, but watched because both my parents were Croatian immigrants (it was Yugoslavia back when they immigrated.) My folks would have been happy!!
Uruguay.
England doesn’t need to wait until 2022 for anything–we’re winning the Euro Cup in 2020!
Come on England! and congrats to Croatia. Hope they win it all.
I’m going to root for Croatia now too, @USCWolverine . We gotta stick together! Besides, I had a neighbor of very proud Croatian heritage growing up who taught my mother how to make delicious stuffed cabbage, so there’s that too!
Uruguay’s population in 1930 when it won the first World Cup was about 1.7 million, 2.9 million 20 years later when it won again. Uruguay today is still probably slightly smaller than Croatia, population-wise. So Uruguay definitely qualifies as the smallest World Cup finalist.
Actually, you don’t even have to wait that long. The Women’s World Cup, being held in France, is 2019.
As for the Euro Cup 2020, it’s not the WC, and you can’t expect teams like Germany, Spain and Italy (not even qualifying) to play that poorly again.
Croatia’s population is 4.2 million.
Allez Les Bleus!
I hope the final has a better referee than today’s match, but Allez Les Bleus indeed!
