worried freshman.

Hi, I’m a freshman in hs, and my parents have put a lot of pressure on me to go to a Ivy League school. I want to be honest and say that I’m hard working when I need to be, and I’m a pretty average kid. I get A’s, and mainly B’s, and once in a while a C. I go to a hs that was on Newsweeks top 100 hs in the country. It’s a challenging magnet school that prepares you for college, and I’m in all pre-ap classes and has ahead as I can be in math taking Algebra 2 as a freshman and already completing Algebra 1, and Geometry. I’m taking chemistry pre-ap, and will be taking physics AP as a sophomore. The problem is that with a magnet school they offer no sports. I’m trying to be involved in many clubs as I can be in as a freshman. I wanted to know what are the chances of an average student getting into a great school like Harvard, or any Ivy League school for that matter.

if ur at a top magnet school in the country then u r no “average student”, unless u get a 1500 on SAT and a 2.5 GPA

Average candidates don’t get into the top schools, but the definition of a standout candidate is quite complex - I recommend you read a book by an admissions office such as How to Get into the Ivy League by Chuck Hughes (former harvard admissions officer) to understand the many and varied criteria.
