Worried

I am feeling really worried. I am applying to UW Madison, UGA, Auburn, and Minnesota. I did very bad my freshman and sophmore due to home issues but got almost a’s junior and senior year with 10 classes a semester. I have over 4,000 service hours working at a vet clinic (which will be my major) Will state schools factor other things in than grades, and will they understand my discrepancy?? Sorry just really discouraged.

many applications (common app and school specific) have a space for you to talk about any special circumstances that may have affected your performance. If you are really concerned, talk to your counselor and they can talk about it with the colleges you are applying to, whether it is in their letter of rec or a special conversation. As long as the improvement is shown, I dont think it will be a problem. However, it is always a good idea to apply to at least 1 safety that you know you will get into, so that you won’t be left in June with nowhere to go. Best of luck to you!

how the hell do you have 4000 service hours? That’s 1000 hours per year, which averages out to about 3 hours a day. The admissions officers might be skeptical of that and disqualify you for lying(unless you have solid recommendations that prove your volunteer hours)

TEN classes in the semester? Please list them.

I have clear recs from each

apush, calc, chem, spanish, English, capstone, ww2, current issues, African American history,

@onceortwice I completely agree. There’s absolutely no way you’ve spent almost 167 days in a vet clinic considering you spend about 10-11 hours each day sleeping and getting ready for bed and school. This doesn’t even consider the 7.5+ hours you spend at school and the time you would spend on homework from 10 classes. That’s a complete lie.

What school has ten periods in the school day to take ten classes in each of the semesters?

Sorry…I don’t buy the story either.

Maybe OP is counting all classes, whether one semester or two. But how many isn’t a factor in admissions reviews.

And, 4000 hours can include summers. But my question with that number would be, what’s the connection to the vet? A relative or close family friend? What real responsibilities? And, what other vol work, for the needs in your community.

Plus, we’d need to know more about your grades and stats, your home state, etc, to assure you. Or not.

Maybe she is a superwoman that never sleeps.
