worries about Cal

So I am in a private HS in Minnesota, I tried to get in Vandy with ED but failed. I now can choice between Emory, Cal, GaTech, UIUC and BC. (I am a CS guy)

Cal has been my first choice since I did a precollege program there last year. I stayed in I-house last summer because other housings are full, so I hangout with people there(mostly Europeans who went to Haas) so I did not really get to know student life at cal that much.

However recently I heard that cal students are not social, and the girls and guys are not good looking, and many people receive need based FA. I am really social and I always hangout/party/chilling with friends throughout the weekend. Especially kids here are usually very nice and people cares about others a lot. Since Cal is a public school, I am really worrying that if Cal students only focus on academics and people are “active” during every weekends.

Is cost a concern?

Emory’s CS course offerings appear to be quite limited. BC is better, but not as extensive as the others. Unfortunately, the others are all out of state public schools, which probably means not much financial aid.

Did you apply to Minnesota or Wisconsin?

If you’re a social person try dorming in the Units where there is more comraderie with your floormates. There is lots of stuff to do on the weekends even if you’re not into sports, and as a freshman it’s very easy to to get into frat parties. Plenty of people adopt the “study hard party hard” mentality and are still able to do well in school.
