I think that Penn is the “worst”, though they’re all great schools.

By the way, does anyone know where the OP decided to go?

Just for fun…Cornell is the worst.

Not something than be answered clearly like most such topics here.

If you mean “worst” by not having as many highly ranked academic programs - than it would be Brown and Dartmouth.

If you mean “worst” by the strength of the student body or admit rate - then it would be Cornell (but then again, if Cornell’s student body was the size of Columbia’s, much less Brown or Dartmouth, Cornell would have similar figures).

You can go on and on w/ any no. of criteria and you will get diff. answers.

greatguru, with a comment like that you certainly do not deserve to attend ANY of them. Lower Ivies? Grow up.

I think this is what most people on CC mean when they say “worst.” CC itself is pretty elitist so what it values is exclusivity rather than strength of academic programs. Heck, even if you look at the rankings (whether it’s US News or London Times or those Chinese ones), Cornell is never the worst Ivy. I don’t have a problem with it. I don’t think I’d be able to get into Cornell if it were more selective. :)

brown? really? i would definitely pick cornell for undergraduate degrees.

harvard, yale, princeton, wharton

columbia, dartmouth, brown, penn

cornell

With any of these schools, if you do well you can do anything you want.

With that said its Probably
HYPS
Columbia, Penn
Dartmouth, Brown
Cornell

I know plenty of profressional college counselors like the former head of collegiate who was quoted as saying that the meaningful prestige difference between Columbia and HYPS is a wash (columbia stood in for Ivy League I assume)…so we really over analyze this. Fit does play a part, I would rather go to Columbia than Stanford whatever the rankings…

From another thread:
Most selective colleges based on SATs

from IPEDS 2007

Harvard University 1400 1590
Yale University 1390 1580
Princeton University 1390 1580
Dartmouth College 1350 1550
Columbia University in the City of New York 1330 1540
Cornell - Arts & Sci and Engineering 1335 1525
Brown University 1330 1530

So, Harvard Yale, and Princeton are a (little) bit higher than the others. Does it really look like there is a meaningful difference between SAT scores for the other schools???

I don’t see how anyone can say Dartmouth is the best, or even in the top 4 out of the 8 ivies. It is in an isolated spot, no real internship opportunities, no real programs stand out as “great”, like half the student party is greek which would imply that the students have wayyy too much time for partying, and it is the least diverse out of all the Ivies. And it focuses too much on undergrad education.

Maybe the best Ivy is the best one for you? And vice versa?

well im talking about facts, not opinions.

This is a bad thing? What?

you should go to a school you have visitied and feel an affinity for. If you can’t visit, read the brochures. Don’t look at the status or anyone’s unlearned opinions. Make up your own mind. School is what you make it. The best thing is to visit and talk to some students at the schools that appeal to you most. Otherwise, read the literature or flip a coin. None of these schools you mention will give you a bad education, and you can always transfer out of a good school. There is so much angst about choosing, but I tell you it is not the be all and end all, just go SOMEwhere, and do well and do your best to get the most out of it. It will be a wonderful time of your life.

Harvard business may not be the “worst”, but it surely has produced some major leadership failures in our nation’s current financial crisis: President Bush, Beranke (Fed Reserve Chairman), Paulson (Secretary of Treasury), Cox (SEC Chairman) and lots of other Harvard alumni who helped ruin Fannie Mae, Bear Stearns, Lehman, etc. Failures include both undergrad and grad school. How powerfully abusive, corrupt, greedy, and tragic.

worst: cornell
best: yale

cornel > dartmouth. at least it has top programs in engineering and business.

Cornell…

I actually agree with dixie on this one. What makes Dartmouth so great, or better than Cornell?
