I’ll give it a shot:

Gender: Male (maybe by a little bit… i think the ratio is pretty much 50/50)
Ethnicity: Asian
State of residence: NJ
Economic Status: ~$200,000 per year (just enough to not get aid, but at the point where $50k a year could still be hard to manage to pay [since $200,000 is the gross income, not the net])
High School type (public, private, charter): Public? i don’t know for this one

watch me be completely off… i’m usually kind of bad at this stuff sometimes

^ lmao, thats me except i’m white not asian…btw i wasn’t rejected!!! i was wait listed lol

lol that’s heartening bicyclekick-- im white, male, from nj too… doesn’t get much worse for us
anyone else?

probably the worst part is the high school i go to is not competitive at all and is public…we haven’t sent anyone to princeton since the 1990s

Gender: Female? in general I know it’s harder to get in
Ethnicity: Asian
State of residence: CA? MA?
Economic Status: ~$200,000 per year (just enough to not get aid, but at the point where $50k a year could still be hard to manage to pay [since $200,000 is the gross income, not the net])
High School type (public, private, charter): A really expensive private school that is academically sub-par.

i really doubt it hurts a lot to be from NJ or CA - a LOT of people get in from NJ and CA. it hurts more if you are just an international.

oh yeah, being international definitely hurts the most, but being from CA definitely hurts. by way of analogy, there is a comparatively large number of asian americans at princeton/the ivies. it still hurts to be asian, precisely because there are so many qualified applicants, just like it hurts to be from CA, for the same reason.

Peytoncline, that’s me you just described. =/

Gender: M
Ethnicity: Asian
State of residence: CA
Economic Status: middle class
High School type (public, private, charter): any

also, this kid is smart (as reflected in his test scores/gpa) but his school is not competitive. on paper, he appears completely ordinary. a couple clubs, sports, non-spectacular essays (due to his math/science tendencies). doesn’t turn in his “additional info” paper, doesn’t (can’t) visit campus, etc, etc

o **** that’s me

dude… im male, asian, live in california, and am completely ordinary with only some hs clubs and good tests scores to back me up. and i got in. it really doesn’t matter that much…

oh yeah, i forgot that it’s really hard for internationals

I’m Asian and have my eyes set on Princeton… should I be worried? Does this mean I have to work extra hard?

@ Peytoncline: Wow. I’m male, asian, live in NJ, make ~$200k, go to a public school, and qualified for extremely little fin. aid.

But heh, i got in
(So anything’s possible is the moral of the story)

Yay to defying the odds, Rupac!

Does anyone know the statistics on NJ kids applying to Pton? Like… is the reason why there are so many NJ kids there is because a disproportionate amount of NJers apply in the first place? or because Princeton likes to have a certain number of students from its home state? Does it just not care?

@ scrivener: According to the website (can’t seem to find the exact link now…) it seems like the most students accepted were from CA, followed by NJ, and I think PA, MA, and NY (not necessarily in that order)

wingless, what were your “good” scores?
and did you have a great essay or something?

^

i got 2350 (750 in reading) and 800, 800, 760 (math, physics, us history). in retrospect, i think my essays must have been pretty good since they got me in everywhere except stanford. i wrote about haircuts and expanded it to my views on life. i also wrote about my thoughts on physics.

and i don’t know the statistics, but there are many kids from NJ because 1) a lot more kids apply from NJ, and 2) the “feeder schools” are also all in NJ.

definitely female International… wait, thats me!
