Is it worth going to BS that is not “prestigious”? I’m talking about the schools below top 200 that don’t look at SSAT. Some people say those schools are not much different from public schools except facility. I mean those schools have 60% locals, 20% sports recruit(boarders),10% kids mostly girls who are wealthy enough just to drop cash, and 10% boarder boys who had no idea how they got here. huge number of students with scholarship which pretty much means no one thinks it’s worth paying full tuition to go there. The location is pretty important but I guess it’s not a college so parents don’t care. It’s quality is equivalent to a public high school in wealthy area. Yes there are exceptions such as schools runned by big companies.
what schools are you considering not in the top 200 in the united states? are these college prep boarding schools? are you sure you’re not looking at schools for addicts or behavior or learning issues? “prestigious” is certainly up for debate in your question. but debates aren’t allowed here. and i would guess that most schools that fit your criteria would not in fact be equivalent to the best public high schools in wealthy areas. opinions differ. as always, consider the source.
however, the short answer is no. there are not many more than 200 “college prep” “boarding” schools in the usa. but schools with less than 50% boarders are not really boarding, so you are in the top 200 after you eliminate those schools.
while some of the low-boarding schools may have impressive facilities, Baylor in Chattanooga, for example, many/most are pretty threadbare and dingy.
if you’re an athlete in Baylor’s wheelhouse, or in a similar position at another school, that might be something to consider, but boarding life there has to be pretty desolate.
and any school with 70 kids total is not going to be much fun either even if they are 100% boarding, unless you all are very similarly odd.
if you’re serious about boarding school, look for the search bar here and go nuts. if not, greenwich high is said to be very nice. others. if you live there.
Is there a specific reason you want to go to a boarding school that isn’t a top 200? Is there a reason you want to go to boarding school in general?
You said that the school was the equivalent of a good public school. Do you want to go to a under 200 boarding school because you don’t have good public schools in your area?
