Hi all,

I entered my work into an online international research showcase competition run by Sigma Xi and was fortunate enough to win best in my category. As a result of winning, I was offered associate membership in the society, which I took. I am not part of my local chapter because I don’t want to stay at this University unless I absolutely have to.

So, my question is: should I list it as an honour? It’s pretty cool and I am quite involved in science education stuff which they try to promote.

Thanks so much :)

You should certainly mention winning best in your category in this showcase competition.

The membership itself isn’t a huge deal.

An award from Sigma Xi is definitely worth mentioning!

Thanks for the replies! I’m definitely mentioning the actual award; I’ll see if there’s space for the membership.

Other question: Should I keep Scientific Research as an EC and then list Science Fair awards underneath it, or should Science Fairs be listed as an EC by itself?

I’d keep the research and awards separate from each other.

Okay, that’s what I was thinking. I have stuff related to just the research that’s not relevant to Science Fair, so it should work out.

Final question: For the five honours I’m allowed to list, should I just list the ones I think are most important to me? Or is it worth trying to show awards from different fields I’m in.
