worthwhile attending?

S got invitation in mail for reception for “applicants class 2016, and families”…it is about an hour away…will this be a huge mob/group activity or worth the trip?

Applicants or accepted students? The applicants get togethers are useful if you want to ask questions. Maybe they’ll do a presention. But if you’ve visited campus and seen the real thing, I wouldn’t think you really need to go to something like that.

Some people go just to ‘suck up’ a little to admissions people, but I doubt they remember much about who they talked to (maybe, though). I’d kind of avoid that.

Others go to see what “kind of people” apply to Colgate. Of course, if most of them never get accepted to Colgate what sort of information would you really be getting?

I doubt it would be a huge mob, but then I never went to one with my daughter so maybe someone who went to one will post. Then again, every one is going to be different, so how useful would someone else’s get-together even be? We did go to the accepted students gathering in the summer – without my daugher since she was in Europe at the time – and it was fun to meet people, and Admissions Director Gary Ross was there to fill us in on things. I guess what I’m saying is you have to decide but I sure wouldn’t stress about it either way.

Thanks for your reply Colgatedad. S went to the event and since he had not visited, nor interviewed, did find the session somewhat helpful. He was thrillled to receive an AMS acceptance letter a few days ago:)
