Would a direct letter help more than another formal essay for reversing deferral?

Instead of submitting another essay that talks about my life, I was thinking about directly appealing to them why I still think Princeton is right for me, why despite there are a number of schools with better known engineering departments out there (like Berkeley and Stanford), acceptences to all of those places would not mean the same as a similar one with a New Jersey return address. I want to make it clear that I want to go to Princeton not because I am a prestige whore, but because I honestly think that there is not a better fitting school for what I want, not MIT, certainly not Harvard, and that this is what differentiates me from all the other applicants from my school (one guy is applying to 17 schools for computer science, including all the Ivies plus SMC).

Would this help me any, or should I just do an essay on comm service or something like that?

i dont see why it wouldnt help u. i think an essay like that would help u much more than another essay on community service

I’m not writing an extra essay. I’m thinking, an additional rec from my employer, a direct letter and some begging from my GC’s :D

personally, i would think that an admissions officer doesn’t want to see someone begging for admission. however, interest in the school is always a plus. participation in more activities like ocean bowl, science bowl, scholarship programs could be much more helpful, and seen as a continuous desire to excel.

well, i wasnt going to beg or say something like “PLEASE LET ME IN!” I was just going to talk about in greater detail than before why I am so interested and who they would get by admitting me.

I wrote a “Why Princeton” essay with my application, and I definitely think it was a plus. I wouldn’t necessarily bring up that there are better known engineering schools out there (for obvious reasons) but if you just reiterate why it’s so perfect for you, it can’t hurt. I know a girl waitlisted last year who visited/talked to her admission officer/talked to people in the drama department, and got off the waitlist. Good luck.

I would try both…but thats cause I’m nutty.

yeah, im going to call pton tomorrow rite after finals (before the office closes) and see if they will let me know how close i was and how i can improve.

I’m doing a letter on “why Princeton?” (basically an essay) and then a supplemental essay on a unique extracurricular of mine. Even if they don’t read it, I’ll feel better come April knowing I’ve tried everything possible.

Am I missing something here? My d called admin twice and was told there IS NO regional rep to contact…so…what is the real scoop? she wanted to write a letter…but instead is having other people write on her behalf. should she still write a letter and send it to the name that we found on the rep list?
