Is it abnormal for a person to apply to different colleges under different majors? (i.e. apply to Harvard for Math, apply to Yale for English)

Is it unreasonable/rude/annoying/frowned upon if I ask my teacher to tailor the rec for a specific major in a program? (i.e. talk about my math to Harvard, MIT, Caltech and talk about my writing for Yale and libral art schools)? *Just using these schools and majors as an example.

No - I don’t think it would be frowned upon. I think you should definitely make that request. good luck!

im just so afraid to ask them. They seem really cold, im afraid to getting rejected by them.

The teachers you asked for recs are cold to you? That’s probably not a good sign.

But no, I don’t think they’d mind. I didn’t ask, but one of my teachers is doctoring her rec for two of my schools.

jontam, My D hates to ask her teachers for recs, feels she is bothering them. Just ask them , they can say no but they do expect it. Just make it as easy for them as you can by having all your info organized for them and give them at least 3 weeks to complete them. They probably are not cold it is just your impression, and they do get asked a lot this time of year. Best of luck!

They shouldn’t seem cold…my teachers were very enthusiastic. My manner towards them was very insecure. “Before you throw me out, let me give you my reasons for wanting a rec from you.” I think they liked that. No one likes people with confidence.
