Would an URM status help gain admission to UK universities from the US?

Would a native american minority status help gain admission to UK schools such as the London School of Economics and possibly Oxford? I know its a good hook for top US schools, but what about these?

i heard the only thing they care about is grades and AP tests… but im not so sure…

I have heard that as well. Has anyone filled out an application for a UK school?
Any other answers?

basically the turth. for internationals (and esp from USA) you might have a slight advantage. URM will not help gain admission, but the fact that you’re an international would mean that you will pay the overseas fee (tons more expensive than what a normal UK or EU student would pay) and hence the “advatnage”. URM gives you no advantage whatsoever. they have virutally no aid for internationals, so fi you’re willing to pay a lotta money for a UK LSE/Oxford education by all means, then its good.

they will see (and virtually only care about)

  • grades/AP test scores/SAT scores
  • GPA/rank
  • maybe a little bit from your recommendation (a general rec that your counselor fill sout i think)
and - like, just maybe your personal statement.

ECs matter little to almost nothing. might give oyu an edge in a draw, but other than that the process is very narrow compared to the holistic judgment of the US

We read the literature from Cambridge & Oxford a couple of years ago, and at the time their priorities were not URM’s from the United States. Their priorities are still oustanding academics, from anywhere. Secondarily, they do have a program of encouraging & recruiting URM’s within the U.K. and from other areas that the British gov’t has a history with. That may have expanded to include low-SES students within the U.K., due to Tony Blair’s initiatives when he was PM. But I would be surprised if a URM from the U.S. has any greater advantage than any other U.S. student has. Now, that’s for the top U’s. As to all the U’s in the U.K., you’d have to check the individual sites & maybe do some emailing, calling.

It would not be a hook at top UK universities like Cambridge/Oxford. They care about your grades. If you get in, it’s because you’re smart and have an excellent academic record, not because of your race / the colour of your skin.

They don’t care about grades. They only care about SAT scores/ SAT II scores/ and AP exam results.
