would eminem get into a top college?

now let’s just assume that eminem was high school age and had stats in range for ivies and top unis. like 3.8 uw gpa and 2100 SAT. now let’s say he applied to a few of these ivies and top unis, do you think he would get in even though his rap songs have gratuitous cursing and the such or would admissions office view his rapping skills as a hook?

totally irrelevant question (but i guess that’s the point)… unless you think yourself a rapper and are trying to see if it is a hook. The point is this really would never happen because eminem or many succesful people would choose to pursue their career first instead of college. However, I beleive some admissions would look at it as a hook. I guess it really depends on the college. They do look for the most diverse student culture…?.?

if he donated a large sum of money from his records to build em a library…maybe

he has multiple grammies and an oscar. im sure that alone is a major hook.

If your question is whether rapping will be viewed positively or negatively, even if the lyrics are rather gratuitous… I would say that it would probably be viewed as a positive thing. It shows a lot of passion. I have a lot of friends who are involved in underground hip-hop (generally more meaningful than the stuff you normally hear), and they are all very passionate about it and devote a huge amount of their time writing lyrics. You don’t see a lot of them go anywhere without their notepads.

yes, he probably would get into top uni’s.

river cuomo of weezer is attending harvard last time i heard, after dropping out and then returning.

Just_Browsin speaks truth.
Writing lyrics is incredibly difficult: they have to be meaningful AND have rhythm/rhyme. Multisyllabic rhyming is NOT easy, and when you restrict the topics of your songs to activism and social change, it requires a lot of thinking.

millions of dollars (but came from poor urban detroit)
no. 1 singles/double platinum albums
a movie
grammies
academy award

those are VERY great hooks.

and just in case anyone is wondering as to why i choose eminem it was because i thought if i said someone like 50 cent everyone would be like “of course, he’s a URM”

oh course they’d accept him, in hopes of him donating to the school.

in addition to all the points others have posted, he’s just plain famous. That alone would bring more fame to the school and may increase prospective application numbers

his celebrity status is his hook, and he would get in somewhere…

Even tommy lee goes to college.

where does tommy lee go?

tommy lee went to college for a show…a big state school, i forget which one. i doubt he ACTUALLY goes there

eminem would probably get in with an amazing essay.

nebraska he went and I think he flunked out or didn’t make marching band or whatever

too much VH1

eminem would probably tell harvard and the likes to **** off–he does shows at Michigan State though
