Would EMU be a good choice for me?

Hi there! I’m new to the site and wanted to know some things about college choice.

I want to go into digital photography. I’ve never really looked at colleges before so I had my boyfriend help me out last night. He said that Eastern Michigan University might be a good choice. I don’t know much about the visual arts program there but my GPA is over the average for that school.

What do you think?

Would you state your stats?

Well according to USNEWS for grad school([Photography - Fine Arts - Graduate Schools - Education - US News and World Report](http://grad-schools.usnews.rankingsandreviews.com/best-graduate-schools/top-fine-arts-schools/photography)) usually top photography schools are:
Yale
School of Art Institute of Chicago
Rhode Island School of Design
Rochester Institute of Technology
University of New Mexico
California Institute of the Arts
San Francisco Art Institute
School of Visual Arts
University of California Los Angeles
Arizona State University
California College of the Arts
Cranbrook Academy of Art

I want to stay close to the Ann Arbor area.

Weighted Cumulative GPA: 3.0333

^^^Eastern should be a good match for you.

^^
Well if you want to stay within the Ann Arbor area there is not that many choices besides:
University of Michigan, Eastern Michigan University, Okland University, Wayne State University, Detroit Mercy, etc… due to your prefer area and stats I think EMU is great to consider.

The thing is, if you want to go into photography unless you want to work for a really prestigious company where you went to university likely won’t matter much. What will matter is your portfolio and your expertise and skill. An amazing photographer is going to get booked regardless of whether he or she attends RISD or Eastern Michigan. I mean, good workshops can help you improve your skills, too.

Could you maybe attend a visual arts/photography course at EMU one day or talk to some visual art professors to get a feel for what the program is like? I’m assuming you’re in-state and in the Ann Arbor area.

I live about an hour away from Ann Arbor, but my boyfriend is probably attending UofM and I want to stay close to him.
I looked at EMU’s site and it appears that it only has black and white photography courses… Perhaps I should look around at some of the others you have mentioned… Any other ideas would be helpful. :]

Wayne seems very good. I like what I’m seeing.
