Hey, I’m taking the SAT again in October and two SAT II’s in November, and was wondering what kind of scores I need to get in order to feel confident applying to some schools.

I’ve taken it twice and have a superscore of a 1970, math - 700 reading - 600 writing - 670. I have a GPA of 3.83 at the end of three years of taking the most rigorous class schedule at a competitive public high school.

I already have a semi-final list of schools that I’m applying to based on my current scores, but if my SAT goes up by enough, I don’t want to have to spend too long finding a whole new set of colleges.

What would I need to get for schools like Williams College, Notre Dame, Rice U, Johns Hopkins, Haverford, and maybe Wesleyan?

Keep in mind that I already have my list, but I’m just looking ahead at the possibility of better test scores.

I don’t know what rank exactly, but I’m fairly certain I’m in the top 15% of my class.

If you like the schools you are applying to why would you generate an entirely new set based on SATs changing? As far as what you might need for the schools you list, look at the Common Data Set for each (Section C) and see how you stack up.

I like the schools that I’m applying to, but I’m also interested in these schools, and I would love to attend any of them. The problem is that I don’t think i can get into them with my current SAT’s, but if my scores went up, it would be possible.

I can always just look at the Common Data Set, but I was wondering what everyone thought about how high into the middle 50% of test scores I would need to be in order to feel safe applying there. Some schools are known to be more selective than others, some areas of the SAT matter more than others…I was just wondering what everyone thought.

Let’s look at Williams: http://provost.williams.edu/files/CDS2010_2011.pdf They accept <20% of applicants immediately making it a reach type school. Rigor, GPA and scores are all very important. It looks like they don’t use the writing score since only M and CR are listed. Your current SATs are below the 25%ile so a large reach.

Yes I know that Williams is “a large reach”, but that’s not what I’m asking. I would not apply to a school like Williams with my current scores, and I don’t think that I gave the impression that I was going to. I was wondering what kinds of scores would be needed to get accepted into a school like Williams, I was not waiting for someone to tell me that I can’t get into somewhere I already knew I couldn’t get into. Thanks though

So use the CDS info. Noone can forecast with complete accuracy but you should be above the 50%ile.
