Would I be a good candidate to transfer?

I currently go to SFSU and am a first year there, but I really want to transfer. It’s not that I don’t like my current school, it’s just I’d rather go somewhere else and be in a different city. I was thinking about transferring to Barnard or Sarah Lawrence. I just don’t want to waste money on applications if I won’t get in. So in high school I took AP/IB courses but I didn’t do so well. I’m talking C’s and D’s. Mainly, due to being stressed and having emotional/personal problems. I got an average score on both my SATs and ACTs. Now, so far in college I have two Bs and one A and I’m volunteering at a local rape crisis center. I have improved my grades significantly since high school and I am more involved in extracurriculars, but will it be enough.

From simply looking at their admissions web pages, you should be able to determine if your test scores and grades meet their minimum admission criteria or match their student profile. You can also find their transfer admissions statistics which say that Sarah Lawrence admits on the order of 17% of transfer applicants and Barnard admits about 25% of their transfer applicants. They will take into account both your college and high school GPAs and in the case of Barnard, the average for Freshman admits is a high school GPA of 3.9. Sarah Lawrence is a bit lower.

Ultimately, the decision is yours whether to apply or not but make sure you stack up favorably to their typical applicant.
