Would i have better luck with the SAT?

I had a pretty horrible time with the ACT in high school. Part of it stems from the fact that the practice tests were misleading, I’d get in the 98th percentile with supposed ‘‘ACT style’’ questions, then on the real thing I’d get like a 20. I’m in the Midwest (Chicago) and our go-to standardized test is the ACT. I wondered how i would do on it but i was just advised to retake the ACT. After which, however, i got the SAME composite score. I felt ashamed because i took the approach of studying alone since i couldn’t afford a tutor.

What should i do? Is it worth taking?

You should try a SAT practice test and see how you do first. There’s one available on the College Board site. Some people find one test way easier/harder than the other. Be warned though, its hard for most people to do well on the SAT without studying. I got 1800 on the SAT my first try but after studying, I can score around 2300.

I tried some practice questions and they seem doable. I think it’s amazing how you were able to boost your score to 2300 just by studying, which materials did you use?

I used Direct Hits for vocab, math I didn’t need to do anything, Ultimate Guide to SAT Grammar for grammar, and How to Write a Killer SAT Essay for the essay. Oh and the Blue Book for practice tests.

It couldn’t hurt. Some people do better at the SAT, others do better at the ACT.

Practice questions from the College Board Blue Book or the Barron’s Book - then see how you do. Best of luck!
