Would I need a degree in civil eng before I could go into structural or transportatio

I know I want to study civil engineering, then go to either structural or transportation from there. Do you need a degree in civil before you can go into structural or transportation? If so, BA or MA in civil first? Or can you go straight to getting a degree in structural or transportation without one in the general civil? Thanks!

To get into those fields, you would need to get a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering. You can continue to get your master’s in civil engineering with a concentration in either of those fields if you wish. It’s common for structural engineers.

I don’t think you need an MA for Transportation.

Basically, you enter your engineering college/ civil engineering college, probably take a few introductory classes that all the freshmen engineers have to take, then decide ~ sophomore- junior year what you want to do.

Pretty sure you graduate with a BS in Civil Engineering (Transportation Specialty) or (Structural Specialty).
