Would I need a mini fridge that locks?

Do you suggest I get a mini fridge that locks? I know they cost more with a lock, and I’ve noticed that a mini fridge key fits any other mini fridge lock. But has anyone ever had a serious problem with someone constantly taking their food/drinks?

I don’t know, but I surmise if you move in with a lockable refrigerator and actually pull out a key everytime you open or close it - I think your roommate may be a bit offended or think you are completely goofy or paranoid.

Who are you trying to keep out of your fridge - your roommate? Your RA? The gators in Lake Alice?

Well, I was thinking that I would’nt lock it unless I started having a problem with someone taking food out constantly even if I asked them to stop. The lock would be more of an option, like if I needed it I could use it. But I save like 50 bucks by not getting a lock, so I think i’ll go lockless and hope for the best.

The problem you are worried about does not happen often. Personally, I have never heard of it happen, and I have known many residents in the dorms.

You don’t need a locking refrig. If your roommate is getting in your stuff, you need to have a prayer meeting with him or her. It’s just part of living in a dorm. Get in habit of locking your door when you are out.

What you need to pay attention to is cash. Don’t carry more than you have to–use a debit card. What is bad about cash is as an example if you say had a hundred dollars and like accidently spilled it out of your pocket going to class and then you get back to your dorm and discover it missing and you suspect your roommate ripped you off–you’ve got 2 problems, you lost the money AND you may figure your roommate stole it when he didn’t. No need inviting these kinds of headaches–watch your cash.

hmm, i dont know where the other commenters are getting their info from, but I have friends in springs who tell me ALL THE TIME about their food getting stolen. especially on weekends, people throw mini pre-game get togethers in their dorm rooms, so dont be surprised if your roomates friends end up free loading off your food. lock it during the weekends or when you know your roomie’s friends will be over when your not around.

its not paranoid; its actually a frequent occurrence.

I had cookies stolen once. I vowed to never keep food in my room after that and just eat at the Reitz.
