Would it be bad to drop my sport?

EC-wise, I think my list should look something like this:

-VP of school’s FCCLA 2 years? 11 - 12
-Leadership position in Interact club (volunteer club – active member for all four years) 9 -12
-Latin National Honors Society 10 - 12
-National Honors Society 11 - 12?
-College credit in H Chem class, college classes (10 - 12)
-P of Support Our Troops club - 2 years (helps out soldiers, etc. – essentially volunteer) (11 - 12)
-Organized 2 benefit concerts (9, 11, maybe 12?)
-Volunteer counselor at camp for homeless kids (2 years) 11, 12
-Physics Team, Bio Team (1 year each) 11, 12
-Big Brother/Big Sister program (volunteer – hopefully 2 years) 11, 12
-Member of Youth Council (volunteer - 2 years) 11, 12
-Secretary of Culinary Arts Club 2 years (maybe 3) 10, 11, maybe 12
-Student Ambassador (1 year or 2 if I am not a Peer Counselor next year) 11
-Peer Counselor (maybe – 1 year – guides freshmen) 12?
-Sharing the Arts 3 years (works with special education children & creates plays) 10 -12
-Jr. NHRA Dragracer (technically counts as a sport – 2 1/2 years by apply date) 11 - 12
-Golf Team (1 year) 10
About 300+ hours of volunteer by the time I apply to college (60 hours ninth, 60 sophomore, 200 between junior, summer, and early senior year)
(I may grab a job or internship this summer too, but)

I’ve received gold medals in the National Latin Exam (hopefully for all Four years), awarded a plaque by a the US coast guard, letters of thanks from the town Rotary.

But I’d really like to drop golf because I will not be receiving a varsity letter, and I doubt I will be a good enough player within this or the next season. It honestly just adds stress to my life by being on the team, especially if I haven’t improved from last year, even though I do really, really enjoy the sport. My team usually needs members, no matter how bad or good they are… Is this a bad move to stop playing? Should I try my best anyway? Are my ECs sufficient as they stand WITHOUT needing the extra years of golf team?!

I’d be applying to competitive state schools as an OOS applicant like University of Maryland (CP), Fordham, Northeastern, Boston U (maybe), Syracuse, Rutgers, Penn State, UMass Amherst, etc.

You’ll be fine. I dropped my fourth year of soccer and was accepted at Canisius College, University of Michigan, and University of Chicago thus far.

You think? I’m starting to get nervous with my class rigor (school doesn’t have many AP classes until senior year – in all Honors though) and the fact that I’ll be submitting only 2 AP exam scores, if I self-study and do well on them. :\ My GPA, SAT/ACT score, and grades should be up to par, though.

if you’re not planning on getting into the school with your sport, they won’t care if you drop it.

I dropped soccer my senior year and got into Smith College, Brandeis, OSU, Hofstra and others. You should be fine. Don’t continue with a sport if you don’t enjoy doing it.

Oh wait, but I dropped my sport because of back pain. :/
