The education of both schools are not even in the same league as UMD. The reputation of of college of c n Salisbury combined don’t even match UMD. I think that UMD has more to offer you then either of those schools especially if your interested in attending athletic events and the school spirit from what I hear is great.

I dont know about Charleston, but pretty much whatever you major in is going to better at Maryland than Salsibury plus Maryland is a lot closer to Baltimore and DC so more internships opportunities.

Capemay, does this mean you think all three are respectable, good schools in which I would be able to be successful and find a job post college?

It will be far more important how well you do in school and the opportunities that you take advantage of while you are there that will lead to being successful and finding a job post college. In the case of my family (2 DDs), the opportunities in the DC metro area were one of the big draws for UMD, and both have taken advantage of those. You have to pick sometimes on what feels the most “right” to you, though.

Icarma, really it depends on what you want to do. My daughter was offered gemstone at UMCP and turned it down for Honors at College of Charleston. A senior now, she’s a finalist for a Fulbright, and has been admitted to 2 of the top PhD programs in her field when she returns from an already fully funded MA program in the UK next year. Would she have done as well at UMCP? I don’t know.

I agree with astrophysicsmom. I hate when people say you should go to a certain school because of the ratings. No matter how high the ratings are for a certain school none of them can guarantee you employment after college. I know people who graduated from Ivy League universities who are worse of than those who went to public universities and are in deeper debt. As TurtlePhobic put it you get out of a university whatever you put into it. If you’re determined I think you can be successful just about anywhere. You just have to make sure you are choosing the school you want for the right reasons, that best suit you and not the ratings people like to throw about.
