Hi, I’m a rising sophomore at MHC. I applied to exchange a semester in Wellesley via 12 college exchange program. And I have already been accepted. Now I’ve decided to transfer to Wellesley instead. Would my exchange acceptance increase the odds of transferring?
Probably not.
Applications for an inter-school exchange are given cursory reviews to be sure that minimum GPA is present,
making sure that the exchange student can do the work.
Applications for Transfer are viewed with a more careful, critical eye that go well beyond the GPA, and will include essays as to why the student is choosing to transfer. The admission folks are looking to see how (and if) the student meets their student profiles.
The most significant thing about Transfer admissions, is how many Transfers a school will typically take each year. Some will take all comers, but other more highly selective schools will only take the same amount of students who have withdrawn – which for the highly selective schools may only be just a few per year, if any.
