Would it be rude?

Would it be rude/unnecessary to e-mail national organizations asking if they need any student representatives or student regional directors?

The reason why I’m asking is there are some national organizations out there that specifically address school-age students’ issues or involve the youth in some way, but don’t have any youth representation.

I don’t want to make a bad impression, though… so is it worth asking?

yes. ask away.

What organizations are you thinking of?

I don’t see how it could hurt. If you’re not involved now, and they think you’re rude, you will continue to not be involved. No gain, but no loss either.

@DataBox: The following suggestions aren’t national organizations but some I were thinking: asking the PTA at my school, asking my mayor or congressman…

What do you think about that? I’m very passionate about youth being able to have a voice in all kinds of matters even if they’re not old enough to vote.

Yeah, that’s true. But still, I would feel really guilty if I was bothering a national organization and they thought my idea was totally ridiculous. I don’t want to do something like it without being careful and making sure it’s okay to do.

rude? no…
actually, I guess that would depend on how you phrased your request. The worst thing that could happen is them ignoring you…which doesn’t really matter :)

Thanks. Anyone else want to give their perspective?
