Would joining the Prytanean Honor Society at UCD help me when applying for grad school?

I received an email about joining, and something about applying + an interview.

What would be the benefits of joining this club, is it not that much different from other clubs and is it just being hyped up in the email to encourage people to join?

Would being a part of this club help me in the long run when I apply for graduate school?

Thanks!

It might help a little, but generally, for graduate school, good grades in one’s major(Especially in the upper-division classes), good letters of recommendation, good personal statement, and good GRE scores(If used) will make an applicant competitive for admission.

Extracurriculars are important, but should show that they’re relevant to what you studied in college or to the field of study that you want to pursue at the graduate level.

I don’t think this club you mention will help very much. Almost all serious grad school applicants would be able to qualify for admission into honors societies like the one you mention, even if they don’t end up joining them.

Distinguish yourself from other grad school applicants by getting involved in research or working with a professor in general. Get very, very, very good grades. Put your all into it. Good luck.

Also, this is the wrong forum to ask this question, lol. Go here and ask your question again; it’s always good to get differing perspectives: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/graduate-school/

It might look nice when applying for jobs and whatnot. I don’t see it being a determining factor in anything, but if one were to look up the society, they would see that it: " is the oldest women’s honor society in the United States", and that “Prytanean members continue to represent the best and brightest of UC Davis, excelling in academics while demonstrating outstanding leadership and devotion to charitable work.”

All of these things look good. If you’re interested, and can keep up with the work they require, then go for it.

Make sure to describe what it is in the resume because I never heard if it, and I assume most job interviewers will not have heard if it either. Re: grad schools, they will undoubtedly know.
