Would Med School mind if I take 5 years to finish degree?

Hello Everyone,

I am a Junior majoring in Forensic Science: Molecular Biology and minoring in English. Do you think medical school admissions would frown upon me if I take 5 years to finish my undergraduate degree instead of 4 years?

Why is it taking you that long? Did you change majors? Are you taking light loads each semester?

med schools do not like to see students who can’t manage full loads to make it thru.

However, there are exceptions. Parent-students who must work full time and go to school part-time, etc.

I took a lighter load this semester because I am doing an internship and a volunteer research program.

How light is your load? And why is this one semester of a light load causing another year to be added?

BTW…are you on financial aid? Will your school cover that 5th year? Many will not.
