Would quitting the crew team prevent me from getting into Brown?

I’m a junior and I’ve been a coxswain on my school crew team for the last two years. I know that it probably looks pretty good for college, but this year it’s just something that I’m dreading doing and don’t enjoy at all anymore, but I’m afraid that if I quit then it will seriously damage my application since Brown is my dream school.

I’m still valedictorian, got 2250 on the SAT the first time around, I’m taking the most difficult courses available to me, and I’m president of my Environmental club and do slightly limited community service. I’m worried that since I don’t do any other sports that not having crew on my junior-senior activities would really harm my application. Would it deter Brown if I quit? I’d love to go to my dream school but I don’t want to spend so much time committed to something I don’t enjoy anymore.

If you do not like spending time doing crew anymore, then don’t do it. You have excellent grades and test scores regardless of your involvement. Although most users on here will agree that being a recruited athlete can help in admissions, you don’t like the sport… being recruited for crew would make you miserable.

Quit the team and be happy! If Brown’s your dream, there are other ways of expressing that to Brown.

Thank you for the feedback  And if I do end up quitting the team I’d like to spend more time on my art-based interests so it wouldn’t necessarily be time wasted, is there anywhere on the application where I would be able to explain that?

Exactly what popcharlie said. Just make sure that you spend the time doing something else; there’s no need to play a sport if you don’t want to, but pick up something else to fill the time both for your own enjoyment and for apps.
