Would setting..

The highest GPA in a school’s 25 or so year record be impressive to colleges? Cause I think I can do it, and the record isn’t even that high.

Well, a girl in my school did that this year, setting the highest GPA my school has seen in a century of existence.

The problem is that she didn’t do an awful lot else, and thus, she’s going to state school with an okay scholarship.

That being said, the girl who tied the old record to make salutatorian did so while being a widely recognized and highly talented track star. She got something in the realm of 140k in scholarships to her private school, in addition to tons of outside scholarships.

Also, one of the people tied for third in the class, under the record, did so while playing a varsity sport relatively well and being a talented musician, singer, and actor. He got into arguably the most prestigious university, and at the very least one of the top three most prestigious universities, that my school has ever sent a student to, with a notable scholarship.

My point? No harm in trying, but you’re better off doing something else amazing in conjunction with an excellent GPA in terms of admissions.

^Agreed. Good point by hyperJulie.

I mean, it’s cool but doesn’t really prove anything to colleges. Up to a certain GPA, colleges look for intelligence. After that point, they look for personality and more compelling passions.

And you said you can do it without too much strain. Go for it, but don’t let it crop your other interests.

What about setting the Highest GPA in the History of your county? Should you ask your counselor to mention that (especially if she’s new to her job) or should you mention it?

Would colleges even know if you had the highest GPA in school history? I don’t think they would look into it that much.

Another thing to consider is that your highest GPA in school history is not official until after the admissions process is over anyway.

^
What if you had the Highest GPA in School/County History before senior year, and it then continued to rise?

Thanks for the responses!
I don’t do tons of clubs, but I put hard work into the few that I do. (Three main ones, and another one that not as much).

I know that alone will get me no where, but I was just thinking that it would still look very impressive.
