Would Stanford readers know what SCTI and IHUM stand for?

I mentioned the SCTI overseas program and IHUM requirement in my “Why Stanford Essay” using the abbreviations to save character space. Right now I am at 1799/1800 characters using SCTI and IHUM.

Would Stanford admission officers know what they are? I’m mainly asking this to people who are familiar enough with Stanford to give a good answer. Thanks!

By the way, they stand for Stanford Center of Technology and Innovation, Introduction to Humanities.

They definitely know what IHUM is. Just taking an admissions tour we learned what it is!

as a current student, I can tell you IHUM sucks balls. Nobody likes taking it.

Yet IHUM seems so interesting from the Stanford website :(

Lol thanks guys, what about SCTI?

IHUM, possibly, SCTI, probably not. All admissions tour guides are (or at least were) undergraduate students, so they’d all know of IHUM, which may not be (but probably is) the case for admissions officers. There are a million different center on campus (ok, probably just hundreds) so very few people would know what SCTI is. I think I’ve heard of SCTI before, but would never have guessed what SCTI stands for.

hmmm what about the BOSP then?

Bing Overseas Studies Program

If I were you, I would clarify both SCTI and BOSP.

For overseas, if you make it clear that it’s studying abroad through Stanford you don’t have to explain that it’s Bing Overseas Studies.
