Would taking a semester off give me chances or hurt me?

Hi,

Im in quite a hard situation. I’m sorry it’s a long story but I’ll try to keep it short.

So I have attended my first and second semester at a community college in my hometown in Wisconsin. I feel that I didnt do well for those two semesters due to financial struggles and personal reasons… I really wanted to attend UWMilwaukee but was rejected as (i figured) my gpa was quite poor. I was below 3.0. I have decided to try attending a Tech College in Milwauked called Milwaukee Area Technical College. The school is very unprofessional and school has already started today for Fall 2015 however I had all my classes removed since my Financial Aid “was not processed” according to financial aid personnel. I redid everything and now I have to wait to register for classes… When they already started this week.

So my question is, would it be too late to take a semester off? I havent paid towards the school yet. Another question is, if I took my Fall semester off, would that help my chances of being able to transfer to the school I really want to go to?(UWM) or hurt it again?

The reason I changed my mind upon going to MATC was because the school is very unprofessional. They are rude over the phone, as if I was talking to a stranger at their home and they are not very helpful to help students with their own information. The school has bad enough reviews.

If I take the semester off, would I be considered a new student? Or still a transfer student if i want to apply to UWM as well?

Thank everyone.

There never is a problem with taking a semester (or longer) off! People do this all the time.

You have completed a full year of community college. That makes you a Transfer student wherever you apply.
