My senior schedule this year has essentially 3 REAL classes, and then it has a whole bunch of fluff AP classes that I’ve already taken the AP tests as self studies. I recently inquired about the option to take quantum physics I/II at the state college and have been given permission by both my high school and the college. The problem comes in here: the class meets M/W/F at 12 - 1 (pm) so I would have to cut out the fluff classes from my schedule and take “release” periods instead (drive is about 30 minutes each way).

So my question is this: Will MIT care if I take release periods in order to make it to the quantum classes? (also I don’t know if the adcoms will know enough background to know whether or not the release periods replaced “fluff” classes - could this also hurt me?)

Current Schedule:
- Honors Calc 3/Differential Equations
- Honors Organic Chemistry I/II (with lab)
- Honors Economics/AP Government
- AP Statistics
- lunch
- Honors Programming 5-6
- AP Environmental Science

Changed Schedule (if I were to go through with it):
- Honors Organic Chemistry I/II (with lab)
- Honors Calc 3/Differential Equations
- Honors Economics/AP Government
- lunch (driving time)
- Release (quantum physics 1/2)
- Release (driving time)
- Honors Programming 5-6

I’m in a dilemma because choosing this option will be detrimental to my class rank (release periods essentially drop you 5-10 places at the least) and will probably look bad to adcoms, but I REALLY don’t want to spend a year without learning more physics.

Thank you so much for your time in answering me!!! :)
