Eventually I would like to become a physician-scientist, and hope to pursue a MD/PhD program after undergraduate…would it be unrealistic to study bioengineering (CALS), be premed, and also minor in Russian? (I already have 10 credits in Russian that would hopefully transfer) I also would really love to study abroad.

Is this possible?

it’s possible to do it…you’ll just need to work very closely with your advisor and probably the pre-med advising and study abroad staff.

No, it sounds quite realistic to me, maybe a bit tough, but you could do it :).

also forgot to mention…MD/PhD programs are extremely competitive (I was looking at them myself) so you certainly want to make yourself stand out, but be sure you don’t stretch yourself too thin. You’ll need to make sure you’re actively involved in meaningful research for (most likely) the duration of your undergraduate career…so this is also something to consider.

i don’t think you can minor in Russian if you are in CALS…

You can minor in any subject you want if you are a CALS student as long a 1.) a minor for the subject exists and 2.) the department in charge of the minor allows it, you just need to ensure you don’t go over the 55 endowed credit limit

Those are only CALS departments…at the information panel I was a part of the director of CALS admissions stated you could pick up a minor in any college if it is offered.

The faculty member who sat in with us also said she had an advisee who had a minor in Italian.

You just can’t double major across colleges.
