I am the founder and the president of National Honor Society, and the founder of JROTC at my school, and the head member. And I am also the president of Business Academy. Last but not least, I am in ASB, and holding Commisioner of Senates and Clubs position.

Hi all. I am an Army CPT. West Point Class of 1998.

Saw your post. Those are all good things. What USMA is looking for is leaders- well rounded persons who want to serve their country.

What does well rounded mean-

It’s great if you were on the track team or academic team or belonged to the National Honor Society…but were you a leader? Were you the CPT of the track team, PRES of the Honor Society etc

Did you get a 4.0…but that doesn’t mean you have to be a geek…people who maybe got a 2.5 and then in their last two and half years motivated themselves to get a 3.5 or higher…demonstrates that you are dedicated to make the grade and improve yourself. Look at the type of classes you are taking…a person with a 4.0 in basket weaving is not the same as a person with a 3.0 or 3.5 with a hard academic regimen such as Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1, Physics Chemistry etc…get those AP courses or International Bacculaureate courses…you should take a class in Calculus…that is one of the hardest courses at the Point

The narrative your write about yourself- the board looks at the whole person…ie) maybe you didn’t have time for a lot of sports but were still a leader…ie) a teen who had to take care of their brothers and sisters because their parents were ill, had a job at night, and still earned a 3.5 GPA or better at school
Community Service- what charities or organizations did you work for…feeding the hungry, Big Brothers and Big Sisters etc
SAT- it would be awesome to score 1600 on that dreaded test…but what good is a 1600 if you do poorly in other areas

Go to www.usma.edu go to the admissions link and look up the current stuff about West Point
Get this book: How to Get Into West Point it was written in the 90’s but it has great insight about the academy, how to get a nomination, and how to interview at the candidate boards
