I was just waitlisted with the following stats:

3.4 UW (VERY strong upward trend)
Frosh/Soph: 2.9 (1AP + 7.5Honors + .5 Regular)
Junior/Sen: 3.8 (13AP/IB + 1 Honors)
27 ACT (29 superscore)
250 Community service hours
Strong ECs (3 leadership positions + some other unique stuff)

I understand that my stats aren’t exceptional, I don’t mean to say “how could this happen?” The thing is I haven’t sent in my subject test score for Bio M, which I’ve received a 640 on. I didn’t send it in because I didn’t think it was good enough. Would this have helped me positively at all?

Another thing is I also didn’t send my SAT scores which I received a 1190/1730.

Also, is it acceptable if I send them a letter which explains the personal circumstances which have affected my GPA in frosh/soph year?

I need assistance in what can I do.
Thanks in advance.

Hi qwerty111! Sorry to hear that you were waitlisted. But it’s MUCH better than a flat out rejection.

Here’s my advice. Check to see if BU accepts letters of appeals to their admission decisions. Then, read up on what they want in it and, well, send one! It’s worth a shot!

I had a friend who sent an appeal letter to one of the UCs which she was rejected to – and she’s currently a junior at said UC. So I would say that you should go for it!

Thanks for replying hannny and Mickel Xenon,

@hannny
I know what you’re saying, it’s definitely much better than a rejection. At least I’m not devastated.

Could you guys please tell me if a 640 on Bio M is good enough for BU? Is it worth calling BU monday to argue that my potential is higher than what was presented in my application?

I think you should send a letter to your regional admissions rep. Include the SAT II bio score and any other accomplishments since you sent your application. Stress that you are very interested in BU and will attend if taken off the waitlist. I don’t recommend calling yourself, but you can ask your guidance counselor to call to let them know how interested your are. Good luck.
