I got Lyme Disease in 8th grade, tried to brave Freshman year of High school but was too sick. Started taking college classes (and have been getting A’s and B’s) and finally was cured in November of '08.
Someone who works at the school wrote me a rec. My essay was about how my best friend who died last year influenced me the most because he made me more accepting of flaws and people with different needs.

To be honest? No. Every year admissions get a lot of tragic stories and this is never new to them. However, what could make you stand out is how you grab the reader in your essay. Remember to describe your emotions and feelings with succinct phrases and also to be to the point. Make the essay about you and as powerful as you can with typically less than 800 words. I think it would be a stronger essay if you talked about your Lyme disease situation and talk about that experience. I’m glad however that you are cured.

Well I didn’t talk about my lyme in my essay because my essay was about my friend. But I did talk about exactly how much he influenced me and how and stuff like that.
